A recent Senate report calls attention to the failure of residential treatment centers around the country to help children because they “put profits above children’s safety”.  This article provides a link to the full Senate report about the many kinds of abuse and neglect children have suffered in these facilities.  While none of the residential treatment centers in New Jersey are cited in this report, it is important to remember we do have children in such facilities in New Jersey.  It is clear that the removal of children with problems from their families often creates more problems for them and sometimes places them in significant danger.  The goal is always to work to keep children in their homes, to provide competent services to children and their families in places that are familiar, and to have parents play a major role in treatment of their children.
